Poet honored

magnetic_poetryChanda Feldman, MFA '03, won a $25,000 creative writing fellowship in poetry from the National Endowment for the Arts. More than $1 million was awarded through 42 fellowships, which encourage production of new literature by allowing writers the time and means to write.

A native of Knoxville, Tenn., Feldman lives in San Francisco. She writes poems that explore the personal narratives and culture of the African-Americans who migrated to the West following the Civil War. She plans to use her fellowship to complete her first book.

Feldman's work has appeared in Crab Orchard Review, Northwest Review, Prairie Schooner, Southern Review, Verse Daily and elsewhere. She has been an editor for Chicago Review, Epoch, Glimmer Train and Mantis, and a production editor for McGraw-Hill Higher Education.
