Walking for hungry children

Chris Allinger at the Friedman Wrestling Center last year.

For the third year, Q Country morning host Chris Allinger is strapping on his backpack to walk for the Food Bank of the Southern Tier’s BackPack Program.

Walkin’ the Country,” set for Sept. 8-12, will take the DJ to every town in Tompkins County to raise funds for the program, which helps children at risk of hunger on weekends and holidays during the school year.

Allinger will begin his walk from the front of the Friedman Wrestling Center Tuesday, Sept. 8 at 9 a.m. after addressing Cornell Athletics and Physical Education's staff meeting. Andy Noel, the Meakem*Smith Director of Athletics and Physical Education, will present Allinger with a check for $6,000 donated by athletics staff members.

Last year Allinger raised $26,540.16, bought 8,846 backpacks and covered 221 children for the school year. His route through campus is mapped below.
