Public Service Center program sponsors leadership conference Feb. 28

The Cornell Public Service Leadership Fellows program will sponsor its fifth annual campuswide leadership conference at Willard Straight Hall, Sunday, Feb. 28. The conference, titled "Deep Impact: Making a Change Through Leadership," is free and open to all Cornell University students.

A day of workshops and discussions facilitated by Cornell faculty members, students and service leaders is planned to promote leadership development and social-change awareness. Three blocked sessions of workshops will be offered from 10 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Several tracks are aimed at particular interests, including individual development, service organizations, new organizations and Greek organizations. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Melissa Kendrick, executive director of the Campus Outreach Opportunity League (COOL), will kick-off the conference with a keynote address. COOL works to educate and empower college students to strengthen the nation through community service. Before joining the staff of COOL, Kendrick was the director of the Community Kitchens of Birmingham, Ala., a multi-service agency addressing hunger issues of low income and homeless people.

A student-based program of the Cornell Public Service Center, the Public Service Leadership Fellows program strives to encourage responsibility through the development of leadership skills.
