Isadore Rosenfeld receives Weill Cornell's highest honor

NEW YORK -- Dr. Isadore Rosenfeld, the Ida and Theo Rossi Distinguished Professor of Clinical Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College (WCMC), was awarded the Maurice R. Greenberg Distinguished Service Award at a ceremony May 4 at the Pierre Hotel in Manhattan. Rosenfeld also is attending physician at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

The Greenberg award is the highest honor NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell bestows upon a physician and includes a $50,000 grant to support the recipient's research.

Rosenfeld is the best-selling author of 14 books for the lay reader and since 1998 has been the health editor of Parade magazine. Every Sunday morning he hosts "House Call" on Fox News.

Rosenfeld is a member of numerous academic and medical societies, and serves as an overseer of WCMC. He is a member of the Board of Visitors at the University of California-Davis School of Medicine, a governor of Tel Aviv University and honorary fellow of the Cornell Graduate Society. Rosenfeld also served as a consultant to the National Institutes of Health on such task forces as arteriosclerosis, sudden death and hypertension. He is the recipient of the first award for achievement in cardiovascular medicine and science by the New York affiliate of the American Heart Association. In 1999 he was presented with the United Nations Citizen of the World Award.

Rosenfeld earned his M.D. degree as well as an honorary doctorate of science from McGill University, Montreal, and today maintains a consulting practice specializing in cardiovascular diseases in New York City.

The Greenberg Award was established in 1980 by major medical center benefactor Maurice R. Greenberg, chairman emeritus of the Board of Trustees of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital and a WCMC overseer, and by Peter Guida, associate professor of surgery and associate attending surgeon.
