Cornell Cinema activity fee funding reduced

After two hours of debate, the Cornell Student Assembly voted Dec. 4 to overturn its appropriations committee's decision to cut Student Activity Fee funding for Cornell Cinema by 22 percent over the next two years.

Cornell Cinema will receive a $10 per student annual share of the fee instead of the $8.60 the appropriations committee had recommended. The current allocation to the cinema is $11 per year, and Cornell Cinema had requested a 75-cent annual increase to cover losses due to the recession. Lowering the allocation by $1 translates to a loss of about $27,000 in funding over the two-year period. The Graduate and Professional Student Assembly voted in November to allocate Cornell Cinema $11.05 from the graduate student activity fee, a small increase.
