Cassandra Dembosky named university registrar

Cassandra (Cassie) Dembosky has been appointed to the position of university registrar. Dembosky had been serving as the interim university registrar for the past year and a half.

"Cassie has done an excellent job working with her colleagues in the office and across campus in one of the more challenging times. I am pleased with the excellence with which the staff has accomplished its goals and continues to set a direction for the future," said Susan Murphy, who as vice president for student and academic services heads the division in which the registrar operates.

The university registrar is the official custodian of the academic records for all students enrolled at Cornell -- a group numbering more than 20,000 each year -- with exclusive responsibility for issuing official transcripts and certifications of enrollments and degrees, and distribution of diplomas. As registrar, Dembosky will provide leadership regarding the use of technology to support enrollment, registration and the academic program, both in Ithaca and for Cornell programs across the country and around the world. She also will work closely with college registrars as they support their faculty and students.

Dembosky joined Cornell's Office of Alumni Affairs in 1985. She then worked in the Undergraduate Admissions Office as an associate director/regional coordinator before joining Corning Inc. in October 1999 to work on its human resource information technology system. Dembosky returned to the university in 2003 as a member of the System for Tracking Administrative Records for Students (STARS) project, for which she served many important roles. She became associate university registrar in 2006.
