Nanoscale short course offered June 3-6

The Cornell NanoScale Science and Technology Facility (CNF) will offer a comprehensive, three-day course June 3-6, on broad topics of nanotechnology.

The course, Technology and Characterization at the Nanoscale, is designed to introduce the technology that potential CNF users – including faculty members, graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, staff members and the high-tech business community – could employ. The course is open to the general scientific community, but class size is limited.

Course content provides a comprehensive introduction to nanotechnology and techniques used to make nanoscale devices. Students will learn about microfluidic systems, microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) cantilever fabrication and nanoelectrode fabrication, and best practices in a nanofabrication environment.

Lectures focus on topics such as nanoscale device design, photolithography, e-beam lithography, etching and process integration. Afternoon laboratory demonstrations complement the morning lectures. Attendees will interact often with members of the CNF staff, who are available to discuss questions pertaining to existing or potential projects.

Fees for the short course: The academic and government rate is $425, and the commercial rate is $850.
