New VP Lombardi sends message of welcome to students

Vice President for Student and Campus Life Ryan Lombardi sent the following message to students Aug. 20:

Greetings and welcome! For those of you new to the Cornell family, I am delighted to be joining you as we make our way through our first year at this special institution. For returning students, I hope coming back to campus gives you renewed excitement for the year ahead. Along with the members of the Class of 2019, I look forward to learning more about the many nuances and traditions of Cornell.

As I have begun to learn more about our community, I am exceedingly impressed by the breadth of resources available to help you succeed. I encourage you to take full advantage of these – engage with your faculty, use our support services and pursue meaningful relationships with your peers. Your experience at Cornell will be deeply enriched by doing so.

Although the faculty, staff and students of Cornell all come from unique backgrounds, we are now one community. One way I hope we will embrace our collective community is by taking care of each other. The academic year will be challenging, and we all will need to lean on one another at some point. As a caring community, we should never hesitate to ask or offer this type of support and reach out to each other in times of need.

I look forward to meeting many of you in person in the coming weeks – please be sure to say hello if we see each other on campus. You can also follow me on Twitter (@ryantlombardi) where I will chronicle some of my experiences as I get to know you and this wonderful community.

Here’s to a great year…Go Big Red!
