Peter H. Coors ’69, chairman and chief customer relations officer of Molson Coors Brewing Co., will deliver the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management’s 29th annual Durland Lecture Tuesday, April 18, at 4:30 p.m. in the Statler Hotel Amphitheater. The lecture is free and open to the public. Seating is limited, and online registration is required.
Coors received his bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from Cornell in 1969 and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Denver in 1970. Coors has spent his entire career in the beer business and follows a Coors' family tradition that has spanned more than a century and five generations. In 2002, he was named chairman of Coors Brewing Co. and chairman of Adolph Coors Co. In 2008, he was named chairman of MillerCoors, a division of Molson Coors Brewing Co. In addition to chairing Molson Coors Brewing Co., he is president and a trustee of the Adolph Coors Foundation.
Molson Coors Brewing Co. – which produces Coors, Coors Light, Miller, Miller Lite, Molson Canadian and Blue Moon – was formed in 2005 from the merger of Molson Brewery and Coors Brewing Co. The merger, in combination with the acquisition of MillerCoors in 2016, created the world’s third-largest brewery, one with more than 350 years of brewing history. Coors is the great-grandson of Adolph Coors, who founded the Golden, Colorado, brewery in 1873. That facility is the largest single-site brewery in the world.
Johnson’s Lewis H. Durland Memorial Lecture was established in 1983 by Roy H. Park and other supporters to bring prominent business speakers to Cornell. It honors Lew Durland, Class of 1930, treasurer emeritus of Cornell, who served as the university’s chief financial officer for more than 25 years. Previous lecturers include Thomas W. Jones ’69, MRP ’72, co-chairman and CEO of Citigroup Asset Management; Abby Joseph Cohen ’73, managing director of Goldman Sachs; Mark Bertolini, MBA ’84, CEO of Aetna; and Lucio A. Noto, MBA ’62, chairman and CEO of Mobil Corp.
