Cornell and city police team up for child safety

The Cornell and Ithaca police departments will offer a bike rodeo and child safety seat checks Saturday morning, Sept. 29, at the Cornell Grounds Shop, 307 East Palm Rd. Both activities are free and open to the public.

From 9 a.m. to noon, trained child passenger safety technicians will be on site to provide instruction in the proper installation, use and maintenance of child safety seats.

From 10 a.m. to noon, a Cops, Kids and Toys bike rodeo will be held, at which children can ride their bikes through an obstacle course and learn about bike safety, road signs and hand signals. Children are asked to bring their own bike helmets if they have them; children in need of a bike helmet will be given one.

Cops, Kids and Toys also will accept monetary donations and donations of unused, unwrapped toys, for distribution during the upcoming holiday season. Application information for those who would like to be put on the distribution list or who know families who are financially disadvantaged will be available.

For more information, contact the Cornell Police Crime Prevention Unit, G-2 Barton Hall, 607-255-7404 or 255-7305.
