Fire safety event March 3 in Willard Straight Hall

Cornell and the American Red Cross are co-hosting a fire safety/smoke detector event, to be held March 3 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Memorial Room of Willard Straight Hall.

Cornell students living off campus can sign up to have up to three smoke alarms installed in their living units. The Kidde i9010 detectors, which come with sealed 10-year lithium batteries, will be sold for $20 apiece, with free installation courtesy of the Red Cross.

Participants in the event include Cornell Student and Campus Life; Cornell Off-Campus Living; the university fire marshal’s office; Cornell Community Relations; the Ithaca Fire Department; and the City of Ithaca Building Department.

Students who visit other tables at the event will receive free lunch tickets.

The event is part of Cornell’s partnership with the Red Cross on its national “Sound the Alarm” program.
