"As Trump showed, even negative buzz is good, especially for front runners, because it can suck attention away from challengers (remember during GOP debate when he talked about his ‘hands’)."

“We are honored to partner with Governor Cuomo and the State of New York to create the new Public Health Corps. As a leading research university, Cornell looks forward to training those who will do the critical work of ensuring the fair and effective distribution of the vaccine to the people of New York.”

“Cuomo is right that we need to make sure the vaccines are being given as quickly as possible and that sites are not allowed to stockpile. However, I agree with those who are critical of Cuomo’s plan for rigid rules and disqualifying sites, especially hospitals, from getting future distributions. Expanding the number of distribution sites and incentivizing rapid use of stocks is a better way to go. Regardless of who gets immunized when, we need to remember that we are in this for the long haul and everyone needs to continue to wear masks and physical distance.”

“States – especially California – have had huge gains in revenue from marijuana, but that took a long time. It all depends on how the regulations, taxes and incentives are implemented, and what we wind up in the hole for with COVID-19. Startup costs in this industry are significant, and if we’re going to get this off the ground, growers and processors will need capital in the form of low-cost loans, etc. It may be years before that money can come around to help make up for what COVID-19 has done.”

“There are plenty of pumpkins to choose from this year as the summer was just about perfect for growing them. I don’t think I have ever seen the colors so vibrant as what I’ve seen in this vintage year. A great way to support your local farmer, especially in this difficult year, is to go out and visit their farm."

“We are at a pivotal moment in NYC's fight against coronavirus. In the past several weeks we've seen infection rates climb in parts of Brooklyn and Queens. This threatens the hard-won gains of last spring and summer. The Mayor and the Governor recently agreed to close all schools in these neighborhoods. This was a wise decision as transmission within crowded schools will happen, even with the best of intentions. We know that these interventions work to stop the spread of the virus. The question is did we implement them too late?”

“With New York’s unemployment rate already at four percentage points higher than the national average, news of relatively sticky unemployment levels and small jobs gains suggest that the Empire State will continue to be among the states hardest hit by the pandemic, thus putting it on one of the longer timetables for recovery.”

“With our hot and dry summer, it was looking like an average year at best for fall foliage, but the September forecast is looking great for anthocyanin production, the pigment responsible for red and purple colors. If sunny days and cool nights continue, we should see gorgeous reds and purples in maples, cherries, tupelos, and red oaks.”

“I expect this year's fall foliage to be average compared to past years. The warmer weather and relatively dry season we've had are not ideal for optimal colors. However, the forecast looking forward appears to have sunny days and cool nights, which will help to maximize leaf sugar production and keep it locked in the leaf resulting in the potential for more vibrant colors."

“In both cases, public and private, prospects of lower revenues mean that additional job losses are possible if appropriate actions are not taken to stimulate the economy. Renewing the extra UI benefits and providing additional direct cash support to households are two components of a people-centered recovery. Additional federal aid to state and local governments is another one.”

“The spotted lanternfly does not bite or sting and is not a threat to people or pets. Large numbers of SLF, while not dangerous to humans or animals, can create a mess when they feed by excreting honeydew on surfaces in backyards, parks, on cars and places where people are active. Sugary honeydew attracts ants and yellowjackets and is a base for the growth of unsightly sooty mold.”
