Online auction March 9 to benefit the United Way

The third Big Red One-Day Online Auction for the United Way is March 9.

Not every listing in the auction can only be found in Ithaca, but most of them are experiences or items unique to the area and many are unique to Cornell.

Whether it’s for a 10-person, two-hour bowling party at Helen Newman; lunch for six at the William Henry Miller Inn; golf at Cornell’s Robert Trent Jones Golf Course; yard work done at your home by the men’s and women’s swim teams; a sailing lesson; a C2C bus trip and one-night stay at the Cornell Club; or tours of such places as Sage Chapel, the Spacecraft Planetary Imaging Facility or Cascadilla Gorge, bidding is sure to be lively.

Proceeds from the more than 50 entries go directly to the Cornell United Way Campaign, which means they go directly to help people in need.

As of Feb. 21, the Cornell United Way Campaign had raised $682,595, reaching 91 percent of this year’s goal. While the formal campaign has ended, gifts continue to be accepted and the student-focused Duff Ball fundraiser is yet to be held, which, with the auction, is expected to bring total giving for 2017-18 even closer to the $750,000 goal. Cornell-raised funds will account for nearly 40 percent of all funds the United Way of Tompkins County, which help people in Ithaca and the surrounding area meet their basic needs and find assistance through local agencies.
