Application period begins Sept. 4 for child care grants

Applications for Cornell’s Child Care Grant Program will be accepted beginning Wednesday, Sept. 4. Faculty and staff members eligible for Cornell’s Flexible Spending Dependent Care Account can apply for tax-free grants of up to $5,000 to help pay for 2020 child care expenses.

You must apply during the Sept. 4-30 application period to receive funding during the 2020 calendar year. If you are pregnant or planning to adopt, and expect to have child care expenses in 2020, you must apply at this time; applications after Sept. 30 will not be accepted.

The grant program covers eligible child care expenses, including: infant and toddler daycare; preschool/pre-K programs; school-age summer day camps and programs; and before- and after-school care for school-age children who are legal dependents of faculty or staff members.

See the Child Care Grant website for detailed information on the program, the application and eligibility requirements. Questions can be directed to the HR Services and Transitions Center; call 607-255-3937 or email childcare@cornell.edu.

Faculty and staff must be eligible to participate in the dependent care flexible spending account to receive grant funds on a tax-free basis. See complete eligibility requirements in the online FAQs. County Association employees of Cornell Cooperative Extension are not eligible to apply for the grant program.

The Child Care Grant Program is one of many programs offered through the Division of Human Resources that address the work/life balance needs of faculty and staff. Undergraduate, and graduate and professional student child care grant information, guidelines and applications are on the Students with Families website.
