The COVID-19 pandemic, driving closures and layoffs as organizations struggle to slash expenses, is forcing everyone to navigate uncharted personal and economic challenges.
In an effort to help address these challenges, Cornell will bring together faculty, industry and academic experts in two separate webcast panels.
On March 30 at noon, the live webcast “COVID-19 and the Hospitality Industry: Priorities and Action Steps for Human Resources” will address the most critical HR priorities and operational implications of the current health crisis. This hourlong moderated session will feature strategic and operational insights from: Robert Mellwig, chief culture officer at SBE Entertainment Group; Leslie Ferrier, vice president of human resources at Momofuku; and Nigel Beck, CEO and founder of When Labs.
Bruce Tracey, professor of management at the School of Hotel Administration, will serve as moderator.
On March 31 at noon, the live webcast “Labor-Management Relations in the Midst of a Pandemic: Conflict or Accommodation?” will explore the myriad labor relations challenges brought on by this global crisis. The hourlong discussion will feature: Harry Johnson, former National Labor Relations Board member and current partner at Morgan, Lewis and Bockius LLP; Paul Wagner, shareholder at Stokes Wagner ALC; and Harry Katz, the Jack Sheinkman Professor of Collective Bargaining and Director of the Scheinman Institute at the ILR School.
David Sherwyn, academic director of the Cornell Center for Innovative Hospitality Labor and Employment Relations, will serve as moderator.
