In authorizing strikes, AFT stands up for workplace safety

This week, one of the country’s most powerful national teachers’ union announced that its leadership would support "safety strikes" if schools were to reopen without appropriate safety measures in place. Angela Cornell, professor of law and director of the Labor Law Clinic at Cornell University’s Law School, says that ensuring workplace health and safety is one of the unions most important goals – especially as coronavirus cases continue to spike across the country.

In Asia Trump could learn subtleties of North Korean issue

This week President Trump will embark in his first visit to Asia, a 13-day trip with scheduled stops in Japan, South Korea, China, Vietnam and the Philippines. The trip is seen as a chance for the administration to clarify its stance on outstanding foreign policy issues in the region, such as the handling of North Korea and U.S. leadership in the Pacific. Cornell experts Annelise Riles, Barry Strauss and Andrew Mertha are available to discuss some of the thorniest issues to confront the U.S. delegation during the trip.

President Trump is expected to announce that the U.S. is withdrawing from the Paris climate accords, a global pact designed to fight climate change. Two experts at the Atkinson Center for a Sustainable Future at Cornell University say that withdrawing from the accords would be a major mistake, both environmentally and economically.
