A significant snow storm is set to hit the Northeast this weekend and neighborhoods in New York City are preparing for high winds and accumulating snow to impact travel.

Mark Wysocki is a meteorologist who specializes in forecasting and weather analysis at the Northeast Regional Climate Center. He says the rapidly developing storm brings the potential for heavy snow and high winds for much of the Northeast.
Wysocki says:
“During the storm, residents of the Northeast should remember to use caution when traveling as weather conditions will change rapidly Saturday night into Sunday morning. The main problem will be the changes in precipitation types, with some areas experiencing sleet and freezing rain before changing over to all snow, making for slippery roads.
“Then the cold blustery northerly winds on the backside of the storm for Sunday night will lead to cold temperatures and winds chills in the -15 to -20°F range, so bundle up and keep warm.
“Forecasting weather is like playing chess. You have specific pieces that move a certain way, and when combined at the right time and place… checkmate! Like chess, certain pieces have to be at the same place at the same time, then a significant snowstorm forms."
