The Trump administration has frozen $18 billion for two major NYC infrastructure projects. The funds were earmarked for the Hudson River Tunnel Project and the Second Avenue Subway project.
Rick Geddes is the director of the Cornell Program in Infrastructure Policy. He noted both projects have already faced long delays, and this certainly won’t help.
Geddes says:
“Although work on the projects is likely to continue despite the withholding of these funds, a lengthy delay might slow them down. That would be unfortunate since time is money in infrastructure delivery.
“Despite being a critical project of the economic health of the region, the Gateway Project has long suffered from political machinations.
“Parts of the Second Avenue Subway have been called the ‘world’s most expensive mile’. Any stoppage of work would likely raise costs further.”
