Floundering economies look to IMF, World Bank for meaningful change

With the coronavirus pandemic challenging the wellbeing of people and countries around the world, global financial institutions face the tremendous task of coordinating economic policies and offering relief for the most vulnerable countries. Such effort will be on display this week, as the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank hold their annual spring meetings. Cornell University experts, including Kaushik Basu, Victoria Beard and Muna Ndulo are available to discuss the gravity of this week’s deliberations as well as their hope for what should be accomplished.

Don’t blame cattle – it’s humans who caused methane levels to skyrocket

Robert Howarth is a professor of ecology and evolutionary biology at Cornell University and an expert on the atmospheric implications of methane. While some researchers have concluded that cows and cattle are the cause of the increase, he says shale gas and shale oil are the most likely reasons behind the steep climb.

Adoptapalooza: Three things to know before finding your four-legged family member

The Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s animals will host its annual pet adoption event, Adoptapalooza, at Union Square Park this Sunday. Dr. Elizabeth Berliner, the director of Maddie’s Shelter Medicine Program at the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine as well as a consultant and lead veterinarian for the Humane Society Veterinary Medical Association’s Field Services program, which facilitates mobile spay/neuter and preventive medicine clinics in rural areas of the U.S. to communities without access to routine veterinary care, reviews her recommendations for any family considering the adoption of a shelter pet.
