The College of Arts and Sciences has awarded 14 New Frontier Grants totaling nearly $2 million to faculty members pursuing research projects ranging from the physics of quantum computing to the design of new musical instruments.
Cornell linguistics doctoral students Ryan Hearn and Joseph Rhyne created the alien language Torfan, used in one of the newest movies to come out of Marvel Cinematic Universe, “Captain Marvel.”
Shonni Enelow, assistant professor of English at Fordham University, has won the 2015-16 George Jean Nathan Award for Dramatic Criticism, administered by Cornell.
“Experimentalisms in Practice: Music Perspectives from Latin America,” co-edited by Alejandro Madrid, Cornell professor of music, seeks to broaden the Eurocentric interpretive framework often applied to experimental music.
Andy Sheng ’20 won the 14th annual Cornell Concerto Competition, Dec. 10 in Barnes Hall, with a Beethoven piano concerto. A physics, math and music major, he will perform the piece with the Cornell Symphony Orchestra in March.
