New grants from the Cornell Center for Social Sciences (CCSS) will fund research ranging from exploring why people spread polarizing content online to assessing health care access in rural New York.

Universities must do more to prepare students to participate in democracy, Johns Hopkins University President Ronald Daniels said at a Sept. 13 event launching the Cornell Jeb E. Brooks School of Public Policy’s Center on Global Democracy.
The fireside chat was part of a two-day visit by Dr. Robert M. Califf, commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, who focused on medicine and health care innovations.
The psychology researcher is “one of the most prominent international contemporary scholars in the field of the cognitive and cultural foundations of language.”
