Two alumni whose influence has been deeply felt in the fields of entertainment and sports were honored with the ILR School’s Groat and Alpern Awards in New York City April 14.

Rafe Pomerance ’68, who played an early, pivotal role in raising awareness about the threat of climate change, will participate in a June 8 Reunion panel, “Challenges and Opportunities for Reducing Climate Risks.”
Alan Kellog McAdams, professor emeritus of managerial economics in Cornell’s Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management, died Sept. 14 in Ithaca after a short illness. He was 83.
The deadline for completing the Cornell Employee Survey is Nov. 18. The survey, done at the request of the Employee Assembly, was announced by President David Skorton Oct. 24.
ILR School Professor John M. Abowd will join the U.S. Census Bureau as associate director for research and methodology and chief scientist, Census Bureau Director John H. Thompson announced Dec. 10.
Engaged Cornell is launching grant programs for doctoral students and for student teams, designed to enhance partnerships with community-engaged research and scholarship in New York state and beyond.
Dr. Augustine M.K. Choi, the Sanford I. Weill Chairman of the Weill Department of Medicine, has been appointed interim dean of Weill Cornell Medicine and interim provost for medical affairs of Cornell University, starting June 1. The formation of a search committee also has been formed.
