Light in Winter festival brightens a frigid weekend in Ithaca
By Susan S. Lang
The eighth Annual Light in Winter Festival, Jan. 20-23, included a host of exhibits and hands-on activities in the free Hall of Wonders, a science fair in the Statler atrium Jan. 22.
This year's festival exhibit celebrated the intersection of science and art with images from the Mars Rover Group at Cornell, paintings and an exhibit and talk by Carl Sagan's son Nick Sagan to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the "Cosmos" television series.
Other festival highlights included science standup comedy, a photo humor workshop, interactive presentations, an astrophysicist discussing the physics of "Star Trek," poems on winter coupled with choral works, a four-course meal at which the participants were blindfolded, and renowned science writer Dava Sobel providing commentary by astronomers while a concert of music from Galileo's time played.
Many of the events took place on the Cornell campus.
