Cornell University a cappella group to tour Japan and South Korea
By Derrick Lee
The Cornell Hangovers, an a cappella group made up of members of the Cornell Glee Club, begins a 10-day, spring-break tour of the Far East on Friday, March 13.
The group will put on 12 concerts in and around Tokyo and Seoul, South Korea. While in Japan, the 15 members of the Hangovers will perform at the Tokyo-American Club, the United States naval base at Atsugi, and on Inter-FM, a radio station that features Western music.
In South Korea, the Hangovers will perform at Seoul National University and Ewah Women's University. They will make a special guest appearance at the Seoul Arts Center with Maestro Nanse Gum. The Hangovers also have been invited to sing for South Korean President-elect Kim Dae-Jung.
The Hangovers last toured Japan in the spring of 1995 as guests of the Japanese Red Cross. As ambassadors for Cornell, they donated 80 percent of their concert proceeds to the Kobe Earthquake Fund.
The Cornell Glee Club, of which the Hangovers are members, was founded in 1868 and is one of the oldest groups of its kind in the United States. The 60-member male choir has performed throughout the United States and in more than 20 countries, as well as on live broadcasts on major networks such as NBC, CBS, PBS and the BBC.
