Cornell president issues statement on protest
By Henrik N. Dullea
Cornell University President Hunter Rawlings today (May 2) issued the following statement on the disruption of vehicular traffic that occurred this afternoon as part of a student protest: "The university regrets the serious disruption of vehicular traffic that occurred on campus for several hours this afternoon. Many faculty, staff, students and visitors were seriously inconvenienced as they sought entrance to or egress from the campus.
"I want to commend the staff of the Cornell Police and the Department of Transportation and Mail Services for their efforts to control the flow of traffic, ensure the safety of individuals with special needs, and reroute public transit during the protest. "The Office of the Judicial Administrator will be handling the complaints that have been brought to its attention, and the university will take appropriate action in the event of a recurrence of this or similar forms of disruption."
