Water restrictions have been lifted for all of Cornell
By Simeon Moss
Cornell officials released this update on drinking water today (Dec. 5) at 8:15 a.m.:
- The entire campus has been switched to alternate water sources, the city of Ithaca and Bolton Point plants. The university's water distribution and building systems have been flushed to eliminate residual contaminant levels throughout the system.
- Water sampling and testing by an independent laboratory have been completed and no fuel oil contaminants are present. Based on these tests, the Cornell Department of Environmental Health and Safety is lifting its restriction on water use for the ENTIRE campus.
- ALL Cornell facilities have been cleared and can use the water for drinking and cooking.
- While the water distribution systems for these areas have been flushed, a possibility exists that odors may still occur. If you encounter an oil odor or see an oil sheen on the water, please open the faucet and let the water flow for 10 minutes. If the condition persists after a second flush, please call Customer Service at 255-5322. If you have any health-related concerns or questions, please contact Gannett Health Center at 255-5155.
- Please note that ice machines, coffee machines and vending machines connected to the water system still cannot be used until they have been flushed. We regret that individual departments must flush these items."
