Cornell freshman, 19, dies Nov. 25

Cornell University is saddened to report the death Saturday, Nov. 25, of one of its students, Graham Baker Morin, 19, of Bellingham, Wash.

A freshman in the College of Architecture, Art and Planning and a member of the university's varsity wrestling team, Morin lost consciousness shortly after 5 p.m. during a break in a light team practice Saturday afternoon in Teagle Hall. He received emergency medical attention at the scene and was taken by Bangs Ambulance to Cayuga Medical Center, where he later was pronounced dead.

A preliminary report from the Tompkins County medical examiner's office says the likely cause of Morin's death was a cardiac abnormality, according to Dr. Janet Corson-Rikert, director of Gannett: University Health Services.

Cornell President Hunter Rawlings said: "On behalf of the entire university community, I extend condolences to the family and friends of Graham Morin. We are honored to have had him as a member of our community, and our thoughts are with his family at this sad time."

University crisis counselors met with members of the wrestling team this weekend. Additional support and counseling sessions for other members of the campus community will be held in the coming days.

A memorial service will be held on campus Wednesday, Nov. 29, at noon in Sage Chapel.

In his athletic career at Sawalicum High School in Bellingham, Morin was a Washington state wrestling champion for three years and was named a national All-American twice.
