Cornell ILR library's vast workplace collection to include International Labor Organization documents

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Documents from the International Labor Organization (ILO) will soon be added to the already vast collection of the Martin P. Catherwood Library at Cornell University's School of Industrial and Labor Relations.

The library, which researchers say has the largest and best collection on workplace and labor-related issues in the United States, is one of only two in the country to be named an official Depository Library by the ILO, a specialized United Nations agency. (The other is the Library of Congress.)

ILR's Catherwood was selected because of its large international clientele and comprehensive Internet-based dissemination capabilities, as well as for the breadth and quality of its collection and its familiarity with its clients' specialized needs. Library users include students, faculty, other academic researchers, workers and managers as well as company and government employees from around the world.

As a Depository Library, Catherwood receives, free of charge, ILO publications from all its major series, including these titles: Bulletin of Labour Statistics, Documents of the International Labour Conference, Management Development Series and Occupational Safety and Health Series, as well as sectoral meeting papers and special studies papers. Catherwood also may select additional ILO materials. In return, the ILR library catalogs and makes publicly available all the ILO material it receives, retaining items for at least five years.
