Ivy League heaps honors on players, coaches
By Anne Ju
As the Cornell men's and women's basketball teams both capped impressive seasons, the Ivy League honored several players with individual honors.
Junior Jeomi Maduka was named the Ivy League Women's Basketball Player of the Year, becoming the first-ever Big Red player to earn that title. Along with Maduka, senior Moina Snyder and sophomore Lauren Benson were selected for the All-Ivy team this year, both earning honorable-mention nods.
In men's basketball, sophomore Louis Dale became the second-ever Cornell player to earn Ivy League Player of the Year honors. Ken Bantum was voted Player of the Year in 1984-85.
Dale joined classmate Ryan Wittman as a member of the All-Ivy first team this year. The Big Red also placed juniors Jeff Foote and Adam Gore on the second team in voting by the league's eight head coaches.
Finally, Cornell men's basketball coach Steve Donahue was named District 2 Coach of the Year by the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) and Ivy League Coach of the Year by MidMajority.com.
The eighth-year head coach has also been named one of 10 finalists for collegeinsider.com's Hugh Durham Mid-Major Head Coach of the Year. Additionally, Wittman was named first-team all-district 2 by the USBWA.
