Len Goodisman '62 promises Cornell $1 per book sold
By Anne Ju
An 8-year-old detective who learns scientific principles as he solves cases is the star of Leonard Goodisman's new children's book, "Detective A: The Case of the Missing Silver Spoon."
Goodisman, who holds a bachelor's degree in math from Cornell, has pledged to donate $1 for every copy of "Detective A" that sells through his Web site, http://www.goodisman.com/.
"It's a way of making contact and also a contribution," Goodisman said.
After what he says was a "beautifully balanced" education at Cornell, Goodisman went on to a career in statistical applications consulting and, later, taught at a community college near Seattle, where he resides.
Goodisman, who also minored in literature at Cornell, credits his years at college for preparing him for a career in math as well as a lifelong passion for writing. He has written several books, plays and children's stories over the years, many of which were for his grandson, who enjoys detective stories.
"Detective A" is published by Books Publishers Network and is available through several retail outlets. When ordering from Goodisman's Web site, click on "Special Instructions" on the shipping page and type "Cornell" in the box, which will generate the $1 contribution.
