Student's screenplay is a finalist at Ivy Film Festival
Daniel Goldstein '10, a communication major, has been chosen as a finalist in the screenplay competition for the Ivy Film Festival to be held April 13-18 at Brown University. His screenplay, "Juliet," was entered in the undergraduate short form category.
This is the second consecutive year that a Cornell screenwriter has been chosen as a finalist for the festival.
"I wrote the script as part of Andy Hiss' screenwriting class," said Goldstein, who minors in film and business and is in the Cornell Film Club. "To watch it go from concept to first draft, through all the revisions and feedback from both Andy and my classmates, to a final version that was recognized by the Ivy Film Festival is really awesome."
Goldstein's screenplay centers around the relationship between a father and his daughter. "The idea came to me when I was at a Mets game with my dad and brother and saw a man in the stands trying to catch a free shirt being thrown from the field for his daughter. Something about that disappointment in the father of not being able to catch a shirt for his daughter really hit me, and I thought that the core emotion might make for a good short film," said Goldstein.
The Ivy Film Festival encourages the creative efforts of undergraduate and graduate student filmmakers. The festival strives to garner recognition for student filmmakers by means of a panel of celebrity judges.
