Tickets go on sale Sept. 1 for the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis concert, Sept. 30 at 8 p.m. in Bailey Hall. All proceeds from the event will benefit mental health initiatives at Cornell. The concert is made possible by a gift from Presidential Councillors Robert '53 and Helen '55 Appel.

Ticket prices are $20 for Cornell students, $44, $40 and $36 for faculty and staff; and $49, $45 and $39 for the general public, available at http://www.BaileyTickets.com.

Cornell is sponsoring additional orchestra programs, including two afternoon clinics on Sept. 30 featuring two JLCO members, with the Cornell Jazz Ensemble directed by Paul Merrill and the Ithaca High School Jazz Band. On Friday morning, Oct. 1, the orchestra will give a "Jazz for Young People" concert in Ithaca High School's renovated Kulp Auditorium, with Marsalis presenting a program for children in grades five through 12 on the history and importance of jazz.

The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra has been in residence at Lincoln Center since 1988. With 15 soloists and ensemble players, the group advances a unique vision for the continued development of the art of jazz through a year-round schedule of performances, education and broadcast events for audiences of all ages.

Marsalis, the orchestra's artistic director, comes from New Orleans' first family of jazz and joined Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers as a teenager while attending The Juilliard School. He made his recording debut as a leader in 1982, has recorded more than 70 albums and has won nine Grammy Awards. In 1983, he became the first and only artist to win both classical and jazz Grammys the same year, and he repeated the feat in 1984.
