The United Way of Tompkins County will celebrate its 21st annual Stephen E. Garner Day of Caring and kick off its 2017-18 Community Campaign Sept. 13, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Stewart Park’s large pavilion.
More than 1,000 children from 32 participating area schools received gifts of clothing, toys and other items over winter break through the 2017 Elves Program, with an additional 16 children sponsored by staff from the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station at Geneva.
The Office of the Dean of Students has announced three new staff members, two joining the Diversity and Inclusion team and one joining the Care and Crisis Services team, to better support Cornell students.

Applications for Cornell’s 2017 Child Care Grant Program will be accepted Sept. 4 through Sept. 29. Grants of up to $5,000 per year will be awarded, tax free, to eligible faculty and staff to assist with child care expenses.

As of Oct. 18, giving to the Cornell United Way campaign had reached more than $215,000, or nearly 29 percent of the goal of raising $750,000 by the time the campaign ends, Nov. 30.
