2018 Photography Contest deadline Sept. 30

The deadline for submitting photos to the 36th annual photography contest is Sept. 30.

Cornell staff, faculty, students, alumni and retirees can email up to four photos to the 2018 photography contest through Sept. 30 to Aggie Binger with the subject line: 2018 photo contest. Entries will be posted online after the deadline has passed.

The photo contest schedule:

  • Sept. 30, 11:59 p.m.: deadline for all photo submissions;
  • Oct. 19: winners for each category announced; voting begins for people’s choice among these winners. Deadline for voting: Oct. 28, 11:59 p.m.;
  • Nov. 2: people’s choice and judges’ choice winners announced;
  • Nov. 5-16: prizes available for pick-up or delivery.

Guidelines:

  • Submit up to four entries, one in each of nine categories: adults, animals, Cornell (any location), humor, landscape, nature, special effects (digital enhancement), structures/buildings and unspecified.
  • Photos entered in previous years’ contests are ineligible.
  • Faculty and staff who have not submitted any photos to the contest in the past three years can choose to enter one of their four photos in the new entrants category but are not obligated to do so.
  • Family members of Cornellians, professional photographers or their support staff, student photography majors and contest judges are not eligible.
  • First-place winners from each category will be decided by the judges, who are chosen from among the university’s photographers and graphic designers.
  • First-place winners for each category will be posted on the Pawprint website. From these, Cornell community members will select the people’s choice for “People’s Choice Best in Show.” Votes must be cast from a computer with a Cornell IP address.
  • If the people’s choice best-in-show photograph is different from the judges’ choice photograph, both will receive prizes. If the same photograph is chosen for both, judges will pick a runner-up best in show.

Photograph guidelines:

  • Photos must be submitted digitally by Sept. 30. The file name must include the photographer’s Cornell NetID, category and name of photo in this format: njs3Animals. Email to Aggie Binger, with the subject line: 2018 photo contest.
  • Except for the special effects category, do not digitally enhance or alter photographs beyond the basics.
  • Your submission gives Pawprint permission to produce the photo in hard copy and online to promote the contest. Pawprint is not responsible for any copyright violations.
