Strong start to Cornell United Way campaign

The United Way Goal Tracker.

As of Oct. 18, giving to the Cornell United Way campaign had reached $215,026, or nearly 29 percent of the goal of raising $750,000 by the time the campaign ends, Nov. 30.

This level of giving was reached by 314 members of the Cornell community, showing a strong response by those able to pledge $1,000 or more, who now are eligible for the Cornell President’s Leadership Association recently established by President Martha E. Pollack.

“We thank these early donors for supporting us right out the gate,” said Susan Riley, campaign coordination director. “We would like to broaden Cornell’s support and are asking every member of the Cornell community to participate in the campaign, at any level. Every dollar matters and makes a difference in the lives of our friends and our neighbors.”

Two upcoming events are expected to increase campus awareness and participation:

  • Homecoming 5K: This 3.1-mile fun run is open to the public and will be held Oct. 21, 8:30-9:30 a.m. at the F.R. Newman Arboretum, Cornell Botanic Gardens. All ages are invited to participate. Walk-in registrations are $20, with proceeds from the run going to the United Way of Tompkins County.
  • Women’s ice hockey: Save the date for Cornell Women’s Ice Hockey vs. University of Wisconsin, Nov. 11, puck drop at 3 p.m., Lynah Rink. More information to come.
