Scientists at Weill Cornell Medicine and at the American Museum of Natural History have assembled the first complete genome of one of humanity's oldest and least-loved companions: the bedbug.
It took 100 years to develop, but this multi-flavored melange was worth the wait. To celebrate the centennial of Cornell University's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS), the university's dairy has created an ice cream it calls Bailey's Creme with Henry's Crunch. Its flavor is Irish cream and it is combined with dark chocolate flakes, caramel and peanuts. The ice cream will be unveiled -- with free samples -- on May 12 following an afternoon parade across the campus to celebrate the college's centennial. (May 4, 2004)
Harry C. Katz, dean of the School of Industrial and Labor Relations from 2005-14, was appointed Cornell’s interim provost effective Nov. 14. He spoke with the Chronicle Nov. 17 about his new position.
The university has launched searches for a new provost and vice president for student and campus life, with the formation of search committees and the selection of search firms. It is expected that the positions will be filled by next fall.
A few hundred more generators are needed to help dairy farmers in northern New York in the wake of the recent ice storm, Cornell Cooperative Extension officials say. "Helping dairy farms is a top priority," said Edward Harwood of Cornell Cooperative Extension in Cornell's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
