Part of East Avenue to close to all traffic April 26-May 8
By Nancy Doolittle
A portion of East Avenue will be closed to all traffic April 26 to May 8 to facilitate road repairs.
Beginning April 26, East Avenue between Tower Road and the Lincoln Hall driveway will be closed to vehicular traffic, including buses and bicycles. The sidewalk on the west side of the street will be closed as well. Crews will replace catch basins and valve boxes; install raised crosswalks; and mill, pave and restripe the street, which will reopen May 9.
Vehicle access will be maintained to the Day/Stimson Hall driveway from Tower Road and East Avenue, and the Lincoln Hall loading dock will be accessible from the north. Emergency vehicle access will be maintained.
The project will necessitate the closure of Presidents’ Drive, the driveway to the A.D. White House. Handicap-accessible parking, loading and reserved parking will be relocated to the parking lot near Malott Hall on Garden Avenue.
The sidewalk on the east side of East Avenue will remain open. Fencing and signage will be installed to direct pedestrians around the work zone. Cyclists must dismount when traveling on the East Avenue sidewalk.
All vehicular traffic, including buses, will be detoured to West Avenue for the duration of the closure. TCAT bus stops will be relocated to Milstein Hall for north-bound routes, and Uris Hall for south-bound routes. For a list of affected bus routes, visit www.tcatbus.com.
In addition, the Campus-to-Campus Sage Hall stop will be relocated to Uris Hall for departures and arrivals from April 26 until mid-August. An announcement will be made when regular service to the Sage Hall stop resumes. Visit www.c2cbus.com for Campus-to-Campus service updates.
