The annual Cornell Agribusiness Economic Outlook Conference will be held Tuesday, Dec. 12, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. hosted by Cornell's Department of Applied Economics and Management.
Aiming to help resolve economic development, community health and other local issues, the Community Development Society, a national organization for community development professionals, will hold its 35th annual conference at Cornell University, July 20-23. The conference will feature a July 21 keynote address by the Rev. Calvin O. Butts III, pastor of the Abyssinian Baptist Church in New York City and president of The College at Old Westbury, Long Island. Butts will speak at 9 a.m. in the David L. An increasingly popular commercial corn, genetically engineered to produce a bacterial toxin to protect against corn pests, has an unwanted side effect: Its pollen kills monarch butterfly larvae in laboratory tests, according to a report by Cornell University researchers.

Lee Teng-hui, former president of Taiwan, is planning to travel to Cornell, where he earned his Ph.D. in agricultural economics in 1968, on a personal visit in early May to see his granddaughter, a Cornell student, and to meet with students and faculty at his alma mater. Lee's visit to Cornell is planned for May 2-4. No public speeches or events are anticipated.
Cornell President Hunter Rawlings will preside over the university's 129th Commencement on Sunday, May 25, at 11 a.m. on Schoellkopf Field. Rawlings will confer degrees on almost 6,000 eligible graduates, capping two days of celebratory activities that include a Senior Convocation with an address by television personality Bertice Berry on Saturday, May 24, at noon in Barton Hall.
