Randi Weingarten '80 is keynote speaker at Union Days

American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten '80 will deliver the keynote at the ILR School's Union Days, April 12, 4:30 to 6 p.m., 105 Ives Hall. Weingarten, an ILR alumna who leads 1.5 million members, will speak on the 2012 Union Days theme, "'Is This Land Made for You and Me?' The Labor Movement and the Public Good." Other events:

Thursday, April 12:

  • Occupy Wall Street and the Labor Movement, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., 229 ILR Conference Center. An informal discussion led by Dorian Warren of Columbia University and ILR alumni working in unions and active in the Occupy movement. Lunch provided.
  • Social Justice Career Fair, 1 to 4 p.m., Ives Hall, second floor lobbies. Exploration of careers in social justice with Cornell alumni and others from labor and nonprofit organizations.

Friday, April 13:

  • The new Worker Institute at Cornell, noon to 1:30 p.m., 423 ILR Conference Center. Learn about opportunities for students in classes, internships and research. Lunch provided.

Tuesday, April 17:

  • "The Flaw," 7 p.m., Cornell Cinema, Willard Straight Theatre. Documentary about the 2008 financial crash and the credit bubble. A discussion follows with ILR assistant professor Louis Hyman, an expert on the economy and the credit system.
