Wolczanski earns chemical society award
By Lauren Gold
Peter Wolczanski, Cornell's George W. and Grace L. Todd Professor of Chemistry, has received the 2011 National Award in organometallic chemistry from the American Chemical Society (ACS).
Wolczanski joined the faculty in 1981 and was named to the Todd professorship in 1992. His research focuses on organometallic, inorganic and materials chemistry, with emphasis on the synthesis, structure and reactivity of early transition metal complexes with small molecules, including dioxygen, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and hydrocarbons. He also studies the generation of solid-state and polymeric inorganic materials from molecular precursors.
Wolczanski is an Alfred P. Sloan fellow and an American Academy of Arts and Sciences fellow; he has served as chair of the Organometallics Gordon Research Conference and member of the Organometallics and Inorganic Chemistry advisory boards.
The award, sponsored by the Dow Chemical Co. Foundation, will be presented March 29 at the 2011 ACS National Meeting in Anaheim, Calif. Wolczanski will also be highlighted in an upcoming issue of Chemical and Engineering News.
