Cornell Sustainability Month features 30-plus events in April

The month of April on campus is sprinkled with more than 30 public events related to sustainability activities at Cornell, across the basic themes of energy, environment and economic development. The Cornell Center for a Sustainable Future is sponsoring Cornell Sustainability Month.

Some highlights include:

  • April 3, Scott Doney, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, on ocean acidification; 4-5 p.m., A106 Corson-Mudd Hall.
  • April 6, Eric Holt-Giménez, Institute for Food and Development Policy, on climate controversies concerning biofuels; 4:30 p.m., Hollis E. Cornell Auditorium, Goldwin Smith Hall.
  • April 9, Ruth Levine, Center for Global Development, on global health and health policy; 2:30 p.m., G08 Uris Hall.
  • April 14, David R. Harris, Cornell's deputy provost, on why racial and ethnic disparities persist; 4:30 p.m., Africana Center lobby. April 21, William A. McDonough, an internationally renowned designer, will present this year's Ken Iscol Distinguished Environmental Lecture on cradle to cradle design; 4:30--5:30 p.m., Call Auditorium, Kennedy Hall.

Earth Day events, April 22, include:

  • Sustainability Hub, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Ho Plaza, music, art and presentations.
  • Professor Christopher Barrett, speaking about the key research questions on persistent poverty and upward mobility explored by Institute for the Social Sciences researchers, 2008-11; 4:30-6 p.m., ILR Conference Center.
  • The Kaplan Family Distinguished Lecture in Public Service, presented by Douglas McMeekin and Juan Kunchikuy of Yachana Foundation, speaking on geotourism and sustainability; 5 p.m., Call Auditorium, Kennedy Hall.
