Program on veterinary holistic medicine slated for Oct. 23

The first of the annual DeeDee Arrison Holistic and Integrative Wellness lectures are scheduled for Oct. 23 at the College of Veterinary Medicine.

Susan Wynn, D.V.M., of the veterinary nutrition and integrative medicine service with Georgia Veterinary Specialists, will present three sessions, starting at 9 a.m.:

  • Integrative Medicine: Why Owners Want It and Why Veterinarians (and Others) Offer it;
  • Alternative Nutrition: Diet Fads and Supplements; and
  • Integrative Strategies: Cancer and other Chronics.

At 1:45 p.m., Kevin Haussler, D.V.M., assistant professor of complementary and alternative medicine at Colorado State University, will present:

  • Veterinary Manual Therapy: Principles and Practice;
  • Current Equine Chiropractic Research: Objective Measures of Spinal Dysfunction and Treatment; and
  • Veterinary Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation.

The lectures all take place in the John Murray Lecture Hall in the Veterinary Education Center.

At 12:45 p.m., the second annual Concert for the Animals will be performed by Carnegie Hall violinist Tim Fain, violinist Augustin Hadelich and pianist Robert Koenig in the atrium of the Veterinary Education Center. Another concert is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the First Unitarian Church of Ithaca, 306 N. Aurora St., with members of the Rising Stars of the Stradivari Society: violinists Augustin Hadelich and Yi Jia Susanne Hou, who will be accompanied by Grammy-nominated artist Robert Koenig on the piano.
