Three New York state companies have received funding through the JumpStart program, which fosters industry-university collaborations to support product development, revenue growth and job creation.

The Cornell Center for Materials Research (CCMR) JumpStart program, funded by Empire State Development's Division of Science, Technology and Innovation (NYSTAR), awards grants of up to $5,000 in matching funds to cover faculty and research staff, facilities, services, supplies and materials.

This fall's JumpStart recipients:

• Innovative Dynamics Inc. of Ithaca will collaborate with Anil Netravali, professor of fiber science and apparel design, to develop a fiber-reinforced silicone rubber tape that can be used in such applications as wire restraint devices in the aerospace industry.
• Mesha LLC of Williamsville, N.Y., will collaborate with Hector Abruña, the E.M. Chamot Professor of Chemistry and Chemical Biology, to perform a laboratory assessment of a new hybrid ultracapacitor technology for use in wind energy applications.
• SensGard LLC of Pittsford, N.Y., will collaborate with C.C. Chu, the Rebecca Q. Morgan '60 Professor of Fiber Science and Apparel Design, to create a test method for evaluation, testing and quality control of new foam materials used in hearing protection applications.

A resource for small and startup technology companies, NYSTAR supports collaborative industry/academic partnerships to foster integrated approaches to develop and commercialize innovative technologies.

CCMR is a National Science Foundation- and New York state-funded interdisciplinary research center at Cornell whose mission is to advance the forefront of advanced materials science and engineering.
