TCAT makes changes to Routes 93 and 86, extending summer nighttime schedule

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Through the combined efforts of East Hill area residents and Tompkins Consolidated Area Transit (TCAT) management staff, TCAT's Route 93, a Cornell nighttime service route, will continue to operate through the summer months. The service will run Monday through Saturday nights, using the current bus schedule.

Last year, due to low ridership, the Route 93 route was cut during the summer months. Higher ridership this academic year, combined with customer feedback, have justified reinstating the service this summer. If Route 93, which serves campus and parts of the East Hill and Eastern Heights neighborhoods, is well used this summer, it will run next summer as well, TCAT said.

Route 86, a severely underutilized route, will be eliminated beginning May 31. Because TCAT added more frequent service to Routes 10 (the Cornell/Commons shuttle) and 81 (the main central campus route), which serve similar areas as Route 86, there had been a major shift in ridership.
