Tickets are on sale, online, for Whoopi Goldberg show at Cornell, Oct. 28

Actress and comedian Whoopi Goldberg will perform at Cornell University's Barton Hall Friday, Oct. 28, at 8 p.m., during Cornell's annual Family Weekend.

Tickets for the performance are on sale for Cornell students and for the general public, and they can be purchased online through the Web site http://www.CornellTickets.com. Admission for reserved seating is $20 for Cornell students and $27 for the general public. General admission seating is $18 for Cornell students and $25 for the general public.

Goldberg rose to national prominence in the 1980s as a comedic powerhouse and articulate humanitarian. She was a major figure in the creation of the Comic Relief concert series, which used humor to raise money to benefit the homeless. A past host of the Academy Awards ceremony, she is the winner of Oscar, Emmy, Drama Desk, Grammy, Golden Globe, People's Choice, Nickelodeon and NAACP awards.

Goldberg's iconic status in American pop culture can be further demonstrated by her appearances in numerous television and film roles, including in: "The Color Purple" (1985), "Clara's Heart" (1987), "Ghost" (1990), "Star Trek: The Next Generation" (1990-93), "Sister Act" (1992), "Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit" (1993), "The Lion King" (1994), "Corrina, Corrina" (1994), "Boys on the Side" (1995), "How Stella Got Her Groove Back" (1998), "Girl, Interrupted" (1999), "Rat Race" (2001) and "Hollywood Squares" (1998-2002). Her comedy specials include "Whoopi Goldberg: Direct from Broadway" (1985), "Carol, Carl, Whoopi and Robin" (1987) and "Fontaine: Why Am I Straight?" (1988). A co-founder of the San Diego Repertory Theater, she also has entertained on Broadway, in such productions as "Hair," "Whoopi Goldberg" and "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum." Additionally, she has several writing, directing and executive producing credits to her name.
