Cornell to host New York gubernatorial debate, Sept. 26

As the land-grant university for the state of New York, Cornell will host a one-hour debate between the Democratic and Republican nominees for governor at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 26, in Bailey Hall.

The New York State League of Women Voters and the Time Warner Cable news channels in New York state are partners with Cornell in sponsoring the debate.

It will be cablecast live on NY1 News and NY1 Noticias in New York City, Capital News 9 in Albany, News 10 Now in Syracuse and R News in Rochester. The cablecast availability of the debate in other parts of New York is being developed, as is the radio network.

Tickets for the debate will be available beginning Friday, Sept. 15. The tickets are free, but there is a two-ticket limit per person. Tickets will be available at the Willard Straight Hall ticket office on campus, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., weekdays; and in downtown Ithaca at the ticket office in Clinton House, located at Cayuga and Seneca streets, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

All seating is general admission. The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. On the night of the debate, ticket bearers must be in their seats by 6:30 p.m. Ticket bearers not at Bailey Hall by 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 26 will forfeit their seats to stand-by ticket holders. The televised debate begins promptly at 7 p.m.
