Cornell Law School student James H. Morris, 22, dies following auto accident near his Illinois home

James Hunter Morris, a Cornell Law School student, died Sept. 16 from injuries received in an automobile accident near his family's home in Carbondale, Ill. He was 22.

A second-year law student at Cornell, Morris was associate editor of the Cornell Journal of Law and Public Policy. A former judicial intern for the Hon. J. Phil Gilbert, a U.S. district judge, Morris also was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon, Gamma chapter, and the Christian Legal Society; he attended the Vineyard Church in Ithaca.

Morris graduated with honors from Carbondale Community High School (2001) where he was a member of various honor societies. He graduated with distinction with a degree in mathematics from the University of Illinois (2005), where he was a lead class assistant, received academic honors and was named a James Scholar.

Morris is survived by his parents, James W. and Jan Morris of Carbondale, his sister, Jennifer Aden, and extended family.

The law school plans to honor his life with a memorial service in late October; details will be posted at a later date.
