Symposium to honor life and contributions of longtime Cornell Professor Arch Dotson

The Cornell Institute for Public Affairs (CIPA) and the Department of Government are co-sponsoring the Arch Dotson Memorial Symposium on Saturday, Nov. 4, at 10 a.m. in the Statler Hotel Ballroom. The event will honor the life and contributions of Arch Dotson, former CIPA director and longtime professor of government. Dotson died in April at age 85.

Icon. Teacher. Colleague. Mentor. Friend. Professor Arch Dotson ("Arch" to those who knew him) was all of these things. During his 50-year career at Cornell, Dotson influenced the lives of countless students with his counsel and instruction and helped to develop several innovative programs. Dotson arrived at Cornell in 1951 as an assistant professor; by 1969 he was chair of the Department of Government and by 1970, a full professor. In 1979 he became founding director of the Cornell in Washington program and went on to become founding director of the Cornell Abroad program in 1984. He served as director of CIPA from 1991 to 1996.

Former colleagues, students and friends of Dotson are invited to attend the symposium. Details on the schedule of events are posted at http://www.cipa.cornell.edu. To attend the symposium and/or the evening reception and banquet, contact cipa@cornell.edu or call (607) 255-8018.
