Thurston Avenue Bridge reopens to northbound traffic

The city of Ithaca has reopened the Thurston Avenue Bridge to vehicular traffic in the northbound direction only, with pedestrians allowed only on the east-side sidewalk of the bridge. Vehicles and pedestrians will be separated by a concrete barrier for safety. The partial reopening came at 7 a.m. on Nov. 13.

The traffic restrictions that have been in place on East Avenue, University Avenue and Forest Home Drive will be removed during the winter shutdown of the project, with the following restrictions: Westbound Forest Home Drive traffic cannot turn right across the bridge, and northbound traffic on East Avenue cannot turn right onto Forest Home Drive.

TCAT will not be able to adjust the bus routes to coincide with the new direction of traffic until Thanksgiving. TCAT will distribute information about route and schedule modifications in the coming days.
