Cornell Dining hires two students to promote food-related sustainability efforts

Cornell Dining has hired two Cornell students as part of its commitment to operating as a sustainable enterprise.

Brad Lipovsky, Arts and Sciences '08, and Steve Zelno, CALS '09, will help Cornell Dining expand its current recycling and composting efforts and develop educational and marketing materials to raise public awareness about sustainability programs. They also will evaluate the cost, availability and feasibility of using compostable tableware, takeout containers and trash bags at on-campus dining facilities.

"This step furthers Campus Life's commitment to a carefully planned program of sound resource management and environmental stewardship in all of our operations and facilities," said LeNorman J. Strong, assistant vice president for student and academic services.

The new part-time positions were created with the support of the federally financed work-study program. They are intended to further Cornell Dining's ability to operate according to the university's definition of the sustainable campus: "meeting the needs of the present, without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs."
